For patients who have tried dieting and exercise but are still unable to get rid of those troublesome fat deposits, liposuction is an option that more than a quarter of a million people chose to address this concern in 2018. Liposuction uses a tube called a cannula and a vacuum to suction fat cells from your body. While it can be effective, the treatment can also be painful for some patients and pose health risks, including but not limited to infections, bleeding, fluid accumulation, and blood clots. This procedure uses cold temperatures to destroy fat cells; the body then eliminates them naturally. Sessions typically last for one to two hours. During treatment, patients feel an intense, cold sensation at first, but usually discomfort is minimal. Possible side effects include numbness, tingling, redness and bruising of the targeted area. Results are visible from one to three months after treatment. 

This technique uses high-intensity sound waves to target and destroy fat cells in the top layers of tissue. The body then disposes of the damaged cells. Sessions take about an hour, and recipients may experience pain and sensations of tingling, pricking, or heat or cold. After receiving treatment, patients may have pain, swelling, and bruising. Generally, results are seen in about eight to twelve weeks.

With this procedure, pulsed ultrasound is used to rupture fat cells; the body’s lymphatic system then absorbs and removes the cellular debris. The treatment is comfortable and doesn’t produce known side effects. Results are usually seen after three to four sessions over two-week intervals. 

This method uses radio frequency to destroy fat cells. It does not usually cause discomfort for patients, and it takes four to five treatments to achieve results. Patients may feel tenderness and see some redness in the treatment area after the procedure.

With this technique, a 1064 nm diode laser creates heat in the fat cells, which triggers a process called lipolysis. Lipolysis happens when the lipids, or fat, inside the cell are broken down into smaller parts so they can pass through the cell wall to be used by the body. The broken-down fat is then absorbed by the body’s lymphatic system and eradicated. While the cells themselves are not damaged, their volume is reduced, producing a slimmer appearance. A typical appointment takes 20 to 40 minutes and usually produces results after four to six sessions. There are no known side effects or specified recovery time, and it is safe for all skin types.
